Scope
This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the flame retardant testingmethods for spark droplets of welding and gas cutting on the fabric sheets
in construction works.
Remark:The units and numerical values given in ( ) in this standardare in accordance with the International System of Units (SI)and are appended for reference.
Classes
The incombustibility shall be classified as given in Table 1 accordingto quantities of spark droplets generated.
Testing Method
SpecimensThe specimens shall be as folows :
Number of SpecimensThe number of specimens shall be 3 pieces.
Size of Specimen The size of specimen shall be approximately90 cm wide and approximately 150 cm long.
Pretreatment of SpecimensDry the specimens for48 h at 50 2°C,and next, cure for 24 h or more in a room adjusted to thestandard conditions (20 + 5C,65 10 %) specifed in JIS Z 8703.Furthermore,for those which are recognized as not requiringdrying evidently,drying may be omitted.
Steel Plates for Generating Spark and GasesThe steel plates forgenerating spark and the gases shall be as follows
Steel Plates for Generating Spark The steel plates to be used inthe test shall be Class 2 SS 41 specified in JIS G 3101,and thedimensions shall be 10 cm wide and 60 cm long, and be three kindsof nominal thicknesses of 3,2,4.5 and 9.0 mm .
Furthermore, the steel plates used shall be those free from rust.
Gases The gases to be used for the gas automatic cuttingmachine, hereinafter referred to as the “cutting machine”, shall bethe oxygen specified in JIS K 1101 and the acetylene specified inJIS K 1902.
Test Equipment The test equipment consists of the cutter, holdermat for judging penetrated hole, and others as given in Attached Figure.Furthermore, spark to be used for the test, the cutting machine andthe mat for judging penetrated hole shall be as follows;
The spark to be used for the test shall be the spark generated(1)when the steel plate for spark generation at ordinary temperaturespecified in 3.2 (1) is cut by the cutting machine specified in3,3 (2)。
(2The cutting machine shall be that capable of changing speed freelyaccording to thicknesses of steel plate, and capable of maintaininguniform and suitable heating capacity.
The mat for judging penetrated hole shall be that which has beenspread with a sheet of paper equivalent to 51.8 g/m2 of JIS P 3104which has been cured under the conditions specifled in 3.3,on theheat insulating board of No.2 24 K and nominal thickness of 25 mmspecified in JIS A 9505.
Furthermore, the size of the mat for judging penetrated hole shallbe 60 cm x 90 cm.
Test The test on the incombustibility shall be carried out inaccordance with the following:
(1) Attach the specimen to the equipment as given in Attached Figureso that its valley is kept horizontal, and free of wrinkles. Attachthe specimen so that the distance between the under surface of thesteel plate for generating spark and the valley of the specimenbecomes 50 cm .
(2)The standard cutting condition shall be determined as given inFigure and Table 2, according to thicknesses of the plate.
