1.Scope
This Japanese Industria1 Standards specifies universal dividing heads andsimple dividing heads used mainly for machining work,hereinafter referred toas the dividing heads.
2.Definition
The meanings of the main terms used in this standard shall be as follows :(1)
universal dividing head A device mainly mounted on a milling machineand used for dividing machining dimensions.This device can be usedfor both direct dividing and indirect dividing work.
Further , its main spindle can be tilted.
In addition , spiral cutting is possible when this device is attached witha mechanical feeding device.The dividing head consists of a headstockand tailstock.
(2)simple dividing head A device mainly mounted on a milling machineand used for dividing machining dimensions. It can be used for directdividing work.
(3)direct dividing Dividing operation by using the uniform dividing holes(or uniform dividing grooves) provided on the main spindle,or by using the uniform dividing holes (or uniform dividing grooves) pro-vided on the direct dividing plate attached to the main spindle.
(4)indirect dividing Dividing operation by using the uniform dividingholes (or uniform dividing grooves) provided on the worm shaft ordividing shaft.
3.Names of Respective Parts
The names of parts of the headstock and tailstock shall be as shown inFigure.
4. Classification
Dividing heads shall be classified into the two types of the universaldividing head (UD) and simple dividing head (SD), and they shall be designated according to their swing as shown in Table 1 for the respectivetypes.
5. Construction
5.1 Headstock The construction of the headstock shall be as follows:
(1)The practicable number of divisions by direct dividing shall be a divisor of 12 or a divisor of 24.
The practicable number of divisions by indirect dividing shall be allthe number for numbers of divisions of 50 or less.
(3)The tilting angle of main spindle shall be capable of tilting in the
range of from – 10o to +110° based on the horizon.
5.2Tai1stockThe construction of the tailstock shall be as follows:(1)The center shall be able to slide in the axial direction.(2)The center shall be able to slide in the vertical direction.
(3)The tilting angle of the center be capable of tilting in the range of from – 15Oto +10 based on the horizon.
6.Taper of Spindle Nose and Shape and Dimensions of Guide Block
6.1 Taper of Spindle Nose The taper of the spindle nose shall be as showninTable 2.
6.2 Guide BlockThe shape and dimensions of the guide block shail be inaccordance with Table 3.
