Scope
This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the testing methods for thethermal performance of solar heat storage tanks of the direct heat storagetype, indirect heat storage type, and other types for solar systems whichuse liquids as the heat storing medium and store thermal energy as sensibleheat, hereinafter referred to as the “heat storage tanks”, However, thisstandard does not apply to heat storage tanks which use heat collectingmediums or heat storing mediums utilizing latent heat. The heat storagetanks referred to here mean heat storage tanks having heat storage tankcapacity of not larger than 1000 including those for hot water supply andfor heat storage, and shall include those heat storage tanks which inte-grally incorporate supplementary heat supply devices.

Definitions
The main terms used in this standard mean as follows:
heat storing mediumA medium such as water and antifreezingsolution which is stored in the heat storage tank and stores thermalenergy by means of temperature difference (sensible heat).
A medium such as water and antifreezingheat collecting mediumsolution which transfers thermal energy from the solar heat collectorto the heat storage tank. This medium is the same as the heatstoring medium in the direct heat storage type, and is a mediumdifferent from the heat storing medium in the indirect heat storagetype.
The volume of the heat storing mediumheat storage tank capacitystored in the heat storage tank, as shown in Table 1. However, inthose heat storage tanks which integrally incorporate supplementaryheat supply devices this means the total volume of the tank in-cluding the part overheated by the supplementary heat supplydevice.
A heat supply device such as asupplementary heat supply deviceboiler used for supplementing the deficit of heat when the collectionof heat from solar heat is insufficient.
heat exchangerA heat transfer device provided in indirect heatstorage type heat storage tanks for the suppose of transferring thethermal energy in the heat collecting medium to the heat storingmedium by heat exchange.
Classification of Test Body Heat Storage Tanks and Part Name
The classification of test body heat storage tanks, hereinafter referredto as the “test bodies” and the part names shall be as shown in Table 2,Table 3,Fig.1,and Fig. 2.
Test Apparatus
4.1 Constitution of Test ApparatusThe test apparatus shall consist ofa testing room,thermostatic tank, piping and the like, and measuringapparatuses as shown in Fig.3 and Fig.4. However, Fig.3 and Fig.4show examples of the indirect heat storage type heat storage tanks, andother apparatus equivalent or superior to those shown in those figures mayalso be used.
