1.Scope
This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies a code of symbolization for the designation of indexable throw-away inserts in materials suchas cemented carbide，cermet and ceramics for cutting tools，hereinafterreferred to as the “inserts”.
2.Definition
For the purpose of this standard , the following definitionsapply :
basic inscribed circle ( d )An inscribed circle taken as thebasis to define the height of corner and the size of insertsand having the diameter equal to the basic size.
(2)normal clearance angle ( en ) The normal clearance angle shall be as follows.
( 3)height of corner (m) The height of corner shall be as follows..
(a)Inserts with odd number of sides and corners
(b)Inserts with even number of sides and corners
(c)Inserts with wiper edges
(4)thickness of the insert ( s ) Height from the bottom face to the cutting edge.
(5)sharp cornerShape of the corner without roundness at the junctionof the major and minor cutting edges:
(6)nominal value of the radius of cornerThe value obtained by roundingthe basic size to the first decimai place by the rules for rounding offof numerical values in accordance with JIs z 8401.
(7)sharp edgeSharp cutting edge which is not honed.
(8)honed rounded edge Cutting edge which is slightly rounded.(9)honed chamfered edge Cutting edge which is slightly chamfered.(10)
honed chamfered-and-rounded edge ( Honed combination edge)Cutting edge which is sightly chamfered and rounded.
